There are a couple of fairly big features that, while not missing entirely from the Office suite for Mac, are not quite up to their Windows counterparts: If you really need any of the specific apps we’ve listed here, you’re going to need run Windows and the Windows version of Office. It lets project managers develop project schedules, create and assign tasks and resources, and manage it all with real-time input from people’s calendars. Project: Project is a project management app that hooks into a company’s Outlook and Exchange Server setup. There’s no Mac version, so if you need it for work, you’ll need access to Windows. Visio: Visio is a diagramming and vector graphics app that lets you visualize complex information in the form of diagrams, graphs, flowcharts, and other forms. You can’t get Access on the Mac, so if you (or your company) works with Access databases, you’re out of luck.Īnd while we’re on the subject, there are also a couple of higher end “Office-adjacent” apps that aren’t available on macOS: Access: Access is a relational database management system that comes with the Professional editions of Office for Windows. While you can easily find comparable apps for macOS, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to bring your Publisher files from the Windows version across very well-at least not without having to work them back into shape. Publisher: Publisher is an entry-level desktop publishing app, aimed mostly at home users. If you’re using a Mac, though, there are couple of Office apps (and Office-related apps) that you just can’t get: Depending on the edition you buy, you might also get apps like Outlook, Publisher, and Access. Almost all editions come with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Microsoft sells Office for Windows in various editions. RELATED: How to Seamlessly Run Windows Programs on Your Mac with Parallels The big question is do you need to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp or Parallels just so that you can run the Windows version of Office, or can you get by with just buying the Mac version (or, better, using one of the installations that comes with your Office 365 subscription)? What Products Are Missing from the Microsoft Office Mac Suite? If you’re switching between Windows and Mac (maybe using one at the office and one at home), or maybe thinking of moving from Windows to Mac, it’s worth comparing the available features in the two versions. That said, there are still features (and entire apps) that you might miss out on if you’re working with the Mac version. Check out that link for a detailed list of updates, but the big stuff includes bringing some long overdue features to the macOS version, like collaborative real-time editing, automatic saving of documents stored in the cloud, and Google Calendar and Contacts support in Outlook (finally). Microsoft recently announced a big update to Office 2016 for Mac. RELATED: What's the Difference Between Microsoft Office's Desktop, Web, and Mobile Apps? Office exists on other platforms too, like the Mac-but those versions are missing some products and features. It's worth noting that purchasing Microsoft Office 2021 means that you won't receive regular software updates that are offered to Microsoft 365 subscribers. Considering that most users are buying Microsoft Office for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, these concessions probably aren't dealbreakers. You also only get the "basic" version of Teams with the Mac license. The Mac version comes with everything listed above except for Publisher, Access, and Skype for Business. Use of the broad arrow mark commenced in earnest in 1691 when the revised Massachusetts Bay Charter included in its last paragraph a “Mast Preservation Clause” stating (original language): Persons appointed to the position of Surveyor-General of His Majesty’s Woods were responsible for selecting, marking and recording trees as well as policing and enforcing the unlicensed cutting of protected trees. Violation by the colonists of this rule would be assessed a fine of £100. Any tree of a diameter of twenty-four inches and greater at twelve inches from the ground, with “a yard of height for each inch of diameter at the butt” was blazed with the broad arrow. This was the symbol commonly used to signify ownership of property or goods by the Crown, in this case to be owned and used solely by the Royal Navy. Securing a shipbuilding material resource all to itself became paramount to the King and the Royal Navy, and the knowledge that the New England colonists were harvesting the largest of the Eastern White Pine’s at an unknown rate led to future supply concerns.Īcting as dominion over the forests of “New England”, the King assumed ownership of the best of the Eastern White Pine trees and appointed a legion of Surveyors of Pines and Timber to survey the forestland “within 10 miles of any navigable waterway” and mark all suitable trees with “ The King’s Broad Arrow”, a series of three hatchet slashes. England’s forests had been cut for firewood in the Middle Ages, and by the 17th century, the closest supply for mast timbers was in the Baltic, where they competed with the French, Spanish, and Dutch for the great Baltic firs. To maintain its world dominance of the seas, Great Britain needed the strongest and fastest ships and Eastern White Pine would make these ships the greyhounds of their day and a force to reckon with in any battle. Mast production was connected to the existing lumber production and led to the development of markets and channels of distribution for those products, as well. Other critical shipbuilding components such as frames, planking and knees, pitch and tar for seaming, resins and turpentine for paint and varnish, and spars to hold sails aloft were produced from the wood. Of all the species of wood used for masts around the world, these were the lightest in weight and the largest in size. Special, extra-long decks had to be added to existing ships to accommodate the Eastern White Pine mast materials. George River in 1605, where he recorded having “found notable high timber trees, (that would make) masts for ships of four hundred tons.” Twenty years following the Pilgrim’s landing at Plymouth Rock, “Masting” became New England’s first major industry as Eastern White Pine quickly became a popular item for export to shipbuilding ports in the Caribbean, England, and as far away as Madagascar.Ī “mast” pine several hundred years old, 5 feet in diameter at the butt and 120 feet in length might weigh 10 tons. English explorer Captain George Waymouth brought his ship, Archangel, into Pentecost Harbor (Maine), near the St. The colonists immediately discovered that the tall, straight Eastern White Pine was the perfect material for shipbuilding, particularly as masts for large vessels. With these qualities and its abundance, the colonists built just about everything out of Eastern White Pine…their homes, businesses, bridges and countless other structures, along with day-to-day items such as furniture. In addition, its organic characteristics and slow growth created a fairly high decay-resistant material. The woodworking properties of the species made it an extremely versatile wood, very easy for a builder to cut, shape and finish. Lumber from these trees was very light, yet strong. The tallest known height recorded was a 250′ Eastern White Pine tree noted in a 1760 publication by William Douglass. Trees 150 to 240 feet tall and trunks free of branches to heights of 80 feet or more were plentiful when the “New World” was being colonized by the England and other Europeans. The majestic Eastern White Pine is the tallest of the pine species in North America, basically the Sequoia of the Northeast. Eastern White Pine played an equally key role in events that led to the Revolutionary War and American Independence from England. The tax on tea was not the only issue that raised anger among American colonists in the 1700’s. We recommend feeding good-quality fish food, including wafers, pellets, or flakes. Leopard Plecos are omnivores and need a varied diet, including vegetation and protein. This fish does not require a large aquarium and a well-maintained 20-gallon tank would be suitable. They will cohabitate peacefully with other fish. Driftwood, rocks, aquatic plants, and other aquarium decorations can be used to furnish their habitat. Their aquariums should provide lots of hiding places. They like fully established and cycled aquariums with clean water, some flow, and stable water parameters. Young juveniles start with much more elongated lines which turn into more irregular patterns as they attain maturity. As its name suggests, Leopard Plecos sport a leopard-like pattern on their body with a mix of black and yellow stripes throughout the length of their body. It is a suckermouth catfish that belongs to the Pecoltia genius of the Loricariidae family. Leopard Pleco (Peckolia Compta), also known as Imperial Tiger Pleco, has very attractive coloration and pattern. Water chemistry is not critical, but the fish generally prefers softish water, and the fish will adapt to a wide range of water conditions. They will appreciate well-planted aquariums with lots of hiding places provided by coconut caves, driftwood, or rocks. These medium-sized plecos do not require large aquariums. It will accept a wide range of sinking foods available online and in aquarium retail stores, including pellets, flakes, or wafers. This fish is herbivorous but also eats other types of foods. Zebra Pleco is peaceful and suitable to inhabit aquariums with most fish. It is considered by many, rightfully so, as the crown jewel of plecos in the hobby. The Zebra Pleco's body is spectacularly patterned in black and white (as its name suggests). This is one of the most beautiful plecos available in the hobby. This beautiful pleco lives upriver of the Altamira on the Xingu River in Brazil. Zebra Pleco, also known by its scientific name Zebra Peckoltia, belongs to the family Loricariidae. Contrary to popular belief, most plecos will not harm healthy aquarium plants and are well-suited for planted aquariums.īelow is our list of the 10 best-looking and most interesting plecos for your aquarium: Furnishing their aquarium with rocks, driftwood, coconut caves, and other decorations is recommended. Plecos are bottom-dwelling fish and they will appreciate some hiding places. Many plecos feed on wood as well and adding driftwood will not only spruce up décor in your aquarium but will also provide food for them. They can also be fed blanched lettuce, spinach, beans, and peas. Oftentimes, however, the amount of algae will not be enough to meet their dietary needs and hobbyists should provide commercially prepared food such as pellets, flakes, or especially formulated pleco wafers. Most of them are omnivorous and some are herbivorous specialists and will readily graze on algae in the aquarium. Hobbyists should be aware that handling these fish should be done with care as these “spines” can inflict some painful stabs and cuts.Ĭare for all plecos, especially those of small to medium size, is similar. They can also spread and “lock” them in place, wedging themselves in crevices and caves. They use them to protect themselves or dissuade potential predators from attacking. They sport stout pectoral and dorsal fin spines. Many have also armored bodies, providing them, with enhanced protection from predators. These mouths are lined with small teeth which they use to scrape algae or wood. They exhibit sucker mouths which they can use to attach themselves to solid objects, aquarium plants, and aquarium glass or decorations. In this blog, we focus on freshwater catfishes from the Loricariids family or the sucker-mouthed plecos. But, catfishes, are found in every continent (except the poles) and in both freshwater and saltwater. There are thousands of different species – many still undescribed – that live principally in tropical freshwaters of South America. Catfishes are quite literally the most diverse group of fish. In addition, the number of buttons has been increased from the Neo Geo standard of four to the six button system first seen in Capcom's Street Fighter. The Groove system from Millennium Fight 2000 has been augmented to include four new systems of play based on various Capcom and SNK fighting games. Additional characters were added, including more characters from Capcom and SNK titles outside of the Street Fighter and King of Fighters series. Teams can now consist of a maximum of three characters, as opposed to four in the first game. In contrast to the fixed system of the original, players can now freely select characters and assign each of them a number from one to four determining their relative strength, adding up to a maximum team ratio of four. Aspects of the first game were tweaked, including the Ratio system. As in the original, players select a team of fighters from various Capcom and SNK games then fight other teams, winning each battle by defeating all the opponents from the other team. It was originally released on NAOMI hardware in arcades. It seems to increasing popularity lately, i've seen a few side tournaments of it at EVO recently. The sequel to the fighting game Capcom vs. And for several years they did until Street Fighter IV which revived the scene and brought a whole new generation into it. I remember hearing that Capcom was going to stop making fighting games after the failure of Capcom Fighting Evolution. it had a short run for a few years, then people kinda got tired of fighting games around that time. but i dont think CVS2 was as popular as MVC2. The moment they are approved (we approve submissions twice a day. I know there have been some Mugen fan projects of Capcom vs SNK 3, anything is possible if the price is right or if u have enough ambitious people working on it. If youd like to nominate capcomvssnk2 for Retro Game of the Day, please submit a screenshot and description for it. similar to DVD Shrink.Īnyway good luck with your project, you might be able to fix a few bugs like maybe the slight delay in the title screen or restoring certain effects for stages, but i dont think there's much u can do other than to replace the sprites with touched up sprites that might make it look better i dont know. Expect the same 40+ fighter roster and slick 2D gameplay, just in a nicer visual package. I remember we had to do this back then because dual layer discs weren't available yet, so in order to back up dual layer games we had to shrink the pss movies. CVS2 was also the first game that allowed online Crossplay between the Dreamcast and PS2 in japan via the KDDI's Multi-Matching service.Īnd as for modding PS2 games, i dont have any experience in it other than maybe repacking movies. Even contains the kara roll cancel glitch which was removed in the Gamecube port. I suppose you can do it with the pause button if you remap it, but then the game will pause each time you taunt.Īs far as gameplay is concerned, it seem arcade perfect to me. And it's lacking a select button which doesn't allow you to taunt. I preferred the PS2 because of the controller, the DC controller is awful for fighting games. Were these differences very noticeable? i grew up on both ports although the Dreamcast ver was never released in the US, i did play the Japanese ver a lot. If anyone is interested in delving into this I would be very happy, if so I would like to know about it here. And believe me, I have searched in many communities and nobody has done something like this with CVS2 for PS2, I think that this port is very little loved by people because of this type of lack. The "fan made port" thing I said because recently I saw in a Soul Calibur community that they made a port of Soul Calibur 3 Arcade Edition to PS2 (which has certain features and a lot of additional content that the PS2 version does not have). I'm sorry I wasn't specific enough (as I said in the post, I don't have the necessary knowledge for this type of work, the most I've done has been reworking textures with Optpix Image Studio and GGS). That could be an alternative, adding certain features to the PS2 game to make it more like its version of NAOMI. Also, considering the overwhelming popularity of this game, even if it was somewhat difficult to do, someone would have done it by now. I am quite certain that you have never, ever seen anyone make a "fan made port" of a Naomi game to the PS2, and you never will.Īdding features of the Naomi version to the PS2 version might be feasible, but you'll have to be a lot more specific.
He once told Xavier McDaniel, a player known for his defense. In 1986 he busted into the locker room of the inaugural three-point competition just before it started, looking around at everyone, before declaring "I'm looking around to see who's gonna finish second." He'd go on to win it, along with the next two years' competitions as well. He once told Chuck Person pre-game he had a Christmas present for him- during the game he shot a spot up 3-pointer, turned to face Person and said "Merry Christmas" and walked away as the shot went in. Larry Bird may very well keep this title forever. A diminutive point guard that was famous in the 90s named Muggsy Bogues was only 5'3", and when he had a chance to hit a game winning shot in the playoffs for the Hornets, Jordan let him shoot it uncontested, saying "shoot it you (expletive) midget." Bogues missed, and later claimed his jump shot was never the same. Like so many trash talkers, he had no filter and no remorse. He once called Will Perdue "Will Vanderbilt" because he said the guy didn't deserve to have the name of a Big Ten university. He's often told his opponents what he would do before he'd do it, and they rarely stopped him. He famously told Dikembe Motumbo "Welcome to the NBA," then shot a perfect free throw with his eyes closed after Motumbo dared him to. He truly loved to talk smack it's obvious from his in-game demeanor when he's mouthing off, and his general love of basketball dominance. And really, the stuff we can hear is only the tip of the iceberg.Ībsolutely deadly, that's what Jordan was both as a player and as a trash talker. When Arron Afflalo missed a free throw in a game against the Knicks, Wallace screamed "Yeah Afflac!" at him. He again yelled "That ball don't lie!" at Austin Rivers after getting called for a foul and Rivers missed. He was ejected for yelling at officials after receiving a flagrant he didn't agree with, before screaming that phrase after the opposing player missed the free throw. He talks trash to players, officials, fans, it doesn't matter. He's often credited with popularizing the ever-present phrase on courts across America "ball don't lie". But he's said he has a code- he won't talk trash about people's family. He's got a championship ring he won with the legendary Pistons team in 2004, which obviously elevates his trash talking game even higher. He's absolutely loved by fans for his trash talk. Much of that is for his defense, but most of it is for his energetic persona and fiery personality. Rasheed Wallace is something of a famous figure among hardcore basketball fans. So without further hoopla, here are 10 of the best trash talkers ever to grace our favorite association: We all remember events like Carmelo Anthony walking out to the Celtics team bus after a game to confront Kevin Garnett over things said on court during the game. It's certainly happened plenty in the NBA, at the highest level of competition. And to be fair, if you're not numb to it, trash talking can definitely get under a player's skin. Some people do it for a competitive advantage, claiming they can 'get in the opponent's head' and mess up their game. Some people talk trash just because they're ultra competitive. There's hardly anything more embarrassing on the basketball court than talking trash and getting schooled. In fact, just about the only way to be a good trash talker is to be able to light it up on the court. Usually, good trash talkers are good players. (Well, arid deserts, anyway.) From local pick-up games around the world to the televised NBA games, trash talking is such a part of the game, it loses most of its combativeness and shock value.Īnd then there are some historically funny, offensive, or just plain gutsy trash talkers that have graced the NBA. Trash talking in basketball comes as naturally as sand in a desert. |
